SANTA ROSA FIRE CLEAN UP

Within 24 hours, CJW mobilized a capable force to one of the most destructive wildfires in California history.  The “2017 Northern California firestorm” destroyed over 8,000 homes and buildings.  Work was performed under the authority and oversight of FEMA, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the State of California and AshBritt Environmental.   CJW also performed private debris cleanup for owners that opted out of the government solution.

CJW’s first challenge was to safe-out utilities and provide clear right-of-way regarding environmental services.  Diverse structures were demolished, gathered, sorted with tens of thousands of tons of fire debris hauled to recycling facilities and landfills, using up to 80 hauling trucks per day, with accurate daily weights and reports, all submitted the next day.

Many properties required special administration and cooperation since work involved concurrent and active operations spread over many miles, around the clock seven days per week.  The mission was of particular significance due great loss and emotional impact of many property owners experienced.  CJW is proud of our professionalism, safe operations and the demonstration of compassion toward impacted property owners.

Much of the work was exceptionally difficult and dangerous with night operations through public right-of-ways.  CJW was assigned many of the most hazardous (hot) and perilous (poor access) properties.  Our crews were known for high production while setting the standard for safety and work excellence.  Every property included an employee safety/rest area and wash station.  All field personnel were Golden Shovel, OSHA 40 and HazWopper trained and Certified.  All field employees were protected from head to toe, including company furnished Redwing boots to guarantee both steel shank and toe.  When near the hot zone, all employees wore the most state-of-the-art protective gear, including battery-powered forced-air HEPA filter breathing systems.  CJW safely operated hundreds of heavy haul trucks over steep, narrow switchback roads.  Many trucks failed CJW’s rigorous daily inspection and were not allowed to operate for CJW.  All approved trucks were also CHP highway inspected and red sticker certified and all trucks supplied additional insured certificates and experienced drivers.  A perfect safety record was maintained by CJW with no incidents or accidents.

CJW ran a dedicated heavy equipment move service 24/7 for instant mobility and service response time, including an assortment of trailers sizes for challenging access.  CJW employed in-house heavy equipment Mechanics and crane trucks with a company yard for full service.  All mobile fuel service was bonded and insured.  All certified payroll was 100% proper and readily available, including all workers and truckers receiving per diem.  All employees, truckers, vendors etc. were timely paid.

CJW, while in Sonoma County, was called to perform an immediate response to the debris flows in Santa Barbara County where we operated three 110,000-pound excavators around the clock debris, breaking and removing boulders while dewatering and removing sediment from multiple basins while simultaneously performing work in northern California.
