Naval Air Station North Island
Design / Build of Child Development Center, San Diego, CA
This child development center aims to accommodate the youngest members of the military community by providing quality, healthful, and safe childcare for infants, toddlers, and pre-school aged children. Thus, the child development center provides well illuminated active and passive activity areas that accommodate a range of play and organized learning to serve the needs of adult staff and parents caring for children there.
The facility includes lobby, control desk, administrative office, activity rooms, kitchen, laundry, toilets and ancillary storage rooms. The site development included all site work, site utilities, parking lots, landscape, and playgrounds. The building provides spaces for child-friendly classrooms with toilets, community space for children and adults, outdoor and indoor play areas, meeting space for adults, administration spaces, clinic, food service space, storage space, and toilets.
This project also included a covered area/shade structure within the playground area and an uncovered loading area with a paved concrete approach and double doors leading into the kitchen/cafeteria area in order to increase ease and efficiency of deliveries to the CDC. The adjacent streets and adjacent facilities/buildings remained open for operation at all times during construction.
